I believe in positivity, education, environmentally friendly treatment, research, equality, innovation, fiscal responsibility, and connecting with the community.
I love to connect with the community on issues that bring positive change to St. Johns County. I have been volunteering in SJC since moving here 10 years ago. Now in my role as a non partisan County Commissioner, I am able to speak at schools about civics, non partisan politics, career days and mentor student councils. I love to volunteer for anything that helps make positive change especially healthcare initiatives, helping the local homeless community, voter registrations drives, issues facing women, civil rights, and other environmental and humanitarian efforts. I have participated in getting the Month of June passed as Pride month through Proclamations in St. Augustine, and St. Augustine Beach the last 3 years.
Mosquitoes love to lay their eggs in plastics that hold water, especially single use plastics. When a piece of plastic is thrown out by the road and able to sit undisturbed for a period of time even if the water dries out, the eggs can stick to the side of the container and can stay attached up to a year, and still hatch 5 days after rainfall.
As Educational Chair at AMCD, I was able to partner with the Matanzas River Keepers Litter Gitter. They take folks out on a boat to clean up trash out of the waterways. I highly recommend you take your family, friends or co-workers out to help our environment. Getting the trash and plastics out of our waterways ensures mosquitoes don’t have a place to grow in. I love to do beach and waterway cleanups and if you would like to learn more visit https://www.matanzasriverkeeper.org/litter_gitter to help out. Don’t forget to share a picture of yourself by the AMCD logo on the boat and I’ll share it.
