Proven leadership your family can trust to protect, empower, and educate you.

I absolutely love what I do, being YOUR voice. I have proven over the last four years to be a leader you can trust, no matter how difficult the challenge is. Along with the Board, we are able to provide exceptional service to all residents in St. Johns County without overspending, playing politics, and forgetting what the residents want. I would be honored to do it for another four years and ensure we protect residents, visitors, and animals without using harmful chemicals and unnecessary pesticides.

Recently, I had the honor to write an article for a local magazine, Loving Our Town St. Augustine, for Women’s History Month. I wrote about the lack of women and diversity in Science and Leadership roles. Please click on the link below to read it.

What does AMCD & the Board of Commissioners do?

Mosquitoes kill more than one million humans worldwide each year. As Vice Chairwoman, I am committed to ensuring our District has the proper equipment, research technology, and budget to protect us all.

Since taking office on January 1st, 2019, I have continuously voted to lower the annual Property Tax millage rate, pay our employees good wages and benefits, and educate myself and the community.

Additionally, I am the Chair of the Educational Committee. I am excited to be opening a state-of-the-art AMCD Vector Educational Center. The Center will provide education on different Vector Diseases to residents and students. In addition, it will feature an insectary for our staff to conduct live research. It will also be a Convention venue for professional, scientific conferences, seminars, and meetings.

My goal is to inspire our youth and women into politics, science, and STEM. In addition, I strive to empower residents, giving them the knowledge they need to combat the world’s most dangerous serial killer, the female mosquito.

Some accomplishments include,

  • Being named a Top 25 Under 40 Young Professional in St. Johns County.

  • Lowering the property tax millage rate for the last 3 years.

  • Completing an International education 6 week course, The Global Challenge of Vector-borne Diseases. Completed online at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

  • Working with local, State, and Federal Representatives and agencies to inform them on laws affecting mosquito control and public health.

  • Continuously votes against needless spending.

  • Making hundreds of appearances speaking to schools, other public offices, associations and clubs, both in person and virtually.

  • Personally delivering more than 22,000 free reusable masks to residents in every part of the county.

  • Working with our Parks and Recreation Department to bring live science to visitors.

  • Providing employees with full healthcare benefits on the first day of employment.

  • Passing a $15.00 minimum wage and ensuring all internships are paid.

  • Received a Proclamation from the St. Johns County Commissioners to make December 8th AMCD Appreciation Day in 2019.

  • Updated policies to become current. One example being to update the dress code, allowing head wear for medical and religious purposes in training, meetings, and the Board room.

  • Raising employee pay to keep up with inflation rates and standard of living.

  • Breaking ground on the Educational Center scheduled to be complete June 2022.

  • Networking with Mosquito Professionals across the State to build stronger relationships with other Districts.

  • Attending the DODD Short Course each year and receiving Continuing Education Credits.

  • Appeared on the St. Augustine City Flagler Radio program, The Break Room, 4 times to discuss Best Practices, residential impacts, and related news.

The thing I have the most passion for is Education. I was inspired by my son, and I am so proud to be the Education Committee Chair at AMCD. I speak at schools, events, and group meetings across the county.

One of my favorite Board meetings was when I was able to help this young man earn his merit badge for “Citizenship in the Community” through the Boy Scouts.

If you would like me to come to speak to your group about the District, mosquito education, Commissioner roles, environmentalism, student council, and more please send me an email.

Did you know not all counties in Florida have an Independent Mosquito Control District like ours?

Currently, only 15 counties in Florida have Independent Districts. It is essential that those counties without Districts receive funds from the State to manage their mosquito control. Each year, I head to the Capitol to meet with our Senators and House Representatives to advocate for budgets that include funds for non-Independent Districts. Part of the funding comes from the tire disposal fee you pay when purchasing new tires. Tires are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, so it is a perfect fit.
